A Famous Australian-Edith Cowan

Edith Cowan was the first woman to be elected to the Australian Parliament. She lived in Western Australia. When she was 18 years old she got married. Her husband worked as a Registrar and Master of the Supreme Court. In 1890 women could gained the right to vote. The King Edward Memorial Hospital was built because of her hard work. In 1921 Edith Cowan was elected to parliament. Edith Cowan's picture is on the $50 Australia bank note.

A Famous Australian- Caroline Chisholm

Caroline Chisholm was a social reformer. Her picture was on the Australian five dollar note for 20 years.

She worked to reunite families and helped thousands of migrants to have a better life. She needed a lot of courage to do her very difficult work. She was given an army barrack building to help people who lived on the streets. At first the army barrack building was abandoned and rat- infested. She worked hard to clean it up.

Another project she undertook was finding work for unemployed young women. As well as this she put a lot of effort into reuniting the families of convicts who had been sent to Australia... For thirty years Caroline Chisholm accepted no money for her work. She worked to build a strong society that would benefit Australia.

A day visiting

Last holidays I had a happy day visiting our old friends Peter and Judith in Oatley.

It was a nice sunny day. My husband and I went to visit Peter and Judith at about 10am. When we arrived, we were very happy to say hello, and it seemed like a long time that we hadn't seen each other. Actually we hadn't seen them since last Christmas.

After a few minutes they took us to look at their garden. We were amazed. When we were there last, their garden had nothing planted in it. Now it had all changed. There were some beautiful flowers, different kinds of plants and few fruit trees. They also had lovely rabbits, pigeons, dogs, chickens and fishes. It was an amazing garden!

At morning teatime they told us about why the things had changed. They have been retired since last year. Their daughter and son are all living near them. They have four grandchildren. Their grandkids all love animals. Now when the grandkids  finish school each day they visit their grandparents. The first thing they do is go to look at the pets.  Peter and Judith are happy to see their grandchildren but I think that they have a lot of jobs to do everyday. However, they enjoy looking after the animals, and we could see it on their happy faces.
During tea time, we  talked about our everyday life. Sometimes we were laughing loudly because we were all excited.

It was nearing lunch so Judith went to the kitchen to prepare food. Suddenly Peter remembered that he missed showing us one thing, so he went to his storage cupboard and took out a gourd for us. When we saw it, we were excited. The gourd had grown so big!  It was about 2 meters long. It was amazing. We couldn't believe it, but it was true. I took a photo of it quickly so I could show it on Facebook soon.

At one o'clock, we had lunch. Judith is a good cook. We enjoyed the delicious homemade food known as Jiaozi. During lunchtime we were talking and  laughing happily, so the time went quickly. Not long afterwards, it was the time to leave.

We all enjoyed the happy catch up. We invited them to visit us as soon as possible. We will be looking forward to it!

My first post

Hi classmates, Now I'm writing my first post. I feel interested in blogging. We use the blog to learn how to write some articles and then our teacher will help us to improve our learning. That is a good idea and it is interesting too. So we are all enjoying it. I rememmbered last week when we started blogging for the first time. Everyone was excited and a little bit worrried, like me. At first something happened.I put in the wrong email address, so I couldn't log on for a few minues. During that time, I saw other classmates working without any problems.I was hoping that I could do my blogging quickly, but I still couldn't log on. Afer that my teatcher came to help me and I got in. I was so happy! Everyone was busy writing their own story. My teacher was very very busy helping us with our first blogging work. It was a good start. I am happy to continue doing blogging. I hope everyone has some interesting stories in their blog!
