A Famous Australian- Caroline Chisholm

Caroline Chisholm was a social reformer. Her picture was on the Australian five dollar note for 20 years.

She worked to reunite families and helped thousands of migrants to have a better life. She needed a lot of courage to do her very difficult work. She was given an army barrack building to help people who lived on the streets. At first the army barrack building was abandoned and rat- infested. She worked hard to clean it up.

Another project she undertook was finding work for unemployed young women. As well as this she put a lot of effort into reuniting the families of convicts who had been sent to Australia... For thirty years Caroline Chisholm accepted no money for her work. She worked to build a strong society that would benefit Australia.
